His military service was primarily with the infantry, serving as a platoon leader, company executive officer, and a company commanding officer. His duty stations and assignments included Quantico, Camp Pendleton, Cuba, Okinawa, and other locations in the Far East.

Upon retiring from the bench in 2005, Ron joined his son, Sean, in the private practice. He maintains a limited caseload, preferring to provide support for other attorneys in the form of guidance and advice on pleadings, briefs, and procedures as well as on substantive issues.
Since retirement, Ron has received a favorable Supreme Court ruling establishing an attorney’s obligation to pay for support services, a favorable settlement for a minority shareholder’s stock in a closed corporation, and a Court of Appeals decision affirming a dismissal of an action by an ex-spouse to vacate a property settlement on the grounds of fraud.
